Here is an excerpt from the interview:
Thirty years ago, riding a bus in Zambia, a CBC journalist had a really good idea. Instead of teaching African farmers about spark plugs and tractors – things they’d never even seen let alone used – why not give them information that might be useful on seeds or compost or oxen.
Originally, George Atkins wrote all of the scripts – on subjects such as how to build a maize crib, how to prevent soil erosion and where to find good feed for cows at the end of a dry season. Now, most of the material is written by Africans for Africans.
